A car from 1962 now the most expensive car offered for sale publicly
A Ferrari 250 GTU racing car, which dates back to 1962, is expected to sell more than $ 45 million at an auction in August, making it the most expensive car to be publicly sold.
Rm Sotheby’s said on Wednesday that the red car was among only 36 cars of this type manufactured by the famous Italian company.
The car, which will be on sale in California on August 24-25, won the national championship in Gran Turismo in 1962 and won nine other races that year with its driver and first owner. It moved in 2000 to American auto collector Gregg Witten, whose auction house said he was racing.
“The GTO is already the last real race car and marks the end of an era when drivers were not afraid to get their hands dirty,” said Shelby Myers, a car specialist at RN Sotheby’s in a statement.
Another Ferrari 250 GTU, which dates back to 1962, registered the highest selling price for a car at an auction sold for $ 38.1 million in 2014.
