Get to know the richest man in history.
American economist Samuel Williamson compared the richest figures of all time.
According to Bloomberg, Williamson is confident that the riches of the past among the businessmen, the royal family and the Roman generals were higher than the profits of the billions of contemporary people.
The Economist compared the financial indicators of the richest personalities of different ages by linking the income and GDP of the state.
According to his calculations, the richest man in the history of Western civilization is the oil king John Rockfiller. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the businessman achieved a fortune of 1.5 billion dollars, about 26 billion at the present time. It accounted for 1.6 per cent of the gross domestic product of the United States prior to his death.
If these proportions are preserved, Rockfiller’s income would have been about three times higher than the income of the founder of “Amazon ” Jeff Bezos, recognized as the richest man in modern history. His assets are valued at about $117 billion dollars.
