The 10 strangest things you’ll find in our solar system
4. Mercury is cooler than Venus
As we all know, the planet Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, and therefore, logically, it should be the hottest planet in the solar system, but this is actually not true.
Although Venus is twice as far away from the sun as Mercury, it is still the hottest planet. This is the result of something we all recently became familiar with “the impact of global warming.” Mercury’s atmosphere is unimportant, so most of the heat from the sun is reflected back into space through its surface, while the atmosphere rich in carbon dioxide keeps the heat, so the planet’s temperature increases over time.
