the world’s busiest air traffic route, destinations may be unknown to you!
The analysis of the flight network revealed the world’s busiest traffic route, leading to a destination that may not have been heard before.
In 2017, more than 13.4 million people traveled from Seoul’s Gembo Airport to Jeju, an island off the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula. This represents a 9.4% jump over the previous year, making it the busiest route in the world.
On average, 180 flights a day from the South Korean capital to the island, known as a tourist destination in Asia, are distinguished by its beach resorts, volcanic scenery and the exotic amusement park Love Land, equivalent to every 8 minutes.
The Melbourne-Sydney route takes second place, with 9.9 million passengers in 2017.
According to Routes data, the Asia-Pacific region dominates the top 100 busiest routes with passenger numbers, accounting for more than 70% of the total.
In terms of the busiest international route, the Hong Kong-Taipei route took first place with 6.7 million passengers on a 802-km journey through 2017.
Europe is on the list of the top 10 congested international routes, only twice, with routes: Dubai – London Heathrow Airport (ranked sixth with 3.2 million passengers in 2017) and New York – JFK – London (2.9 million passengers) only to lower prices.
At the same time, the study found that the route between Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Chiang Mai is the fastest growing in the top 100 routes, with an annual increase of 36% in the number of travelers in both directions.
“This study supports expectations that the Asia-Pacific region will be the biggest driver of demand for flights over the next 20 years,” said Stephen Small, Brand Manager at Routes.
